Trail – Randy Finseth, age 64, of Trail, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Randy Dean Finseth was born December 10, 1959, in Fosston, to Darrell Finseth and Patricia (Lund) Finseth and was the third of eight kids. He was baptized and confirmed at Vernes Lutheran Church in McIntosh. He attended McIntosh school, graduating in 1977. Randy never took life too seriously and would often bring humor to any conversation. You would often meet him with a smile or grin on his face, and he never turned down anyone needing help.
Randy had many talents and was not afraid to tackle any project whether it was construction, automotive, cutting wood or making home improvements. In his free time, Randy enjoyed playing cards and occasionally watching the Minnesota Vikings win. He enjoyed visits from his family and friends and would often host family and holiday gatherings. Rarely did anyone hear Randy complain. He was a positive influence on those around him and will be greatly missed.
Randy had various careers throughout his life, with one of his first jobs after high school of installing irrigation systems, which took him to Georgia, where he met Janel Steile.
Randy was united in marriage to Janel in Athens, GA in October 1987 and to this union their son Derrick Thor was born. Janel passed away in 1989.
Randy moved to Fargo, ND where he was employed as a backhoe operator with the 49ers pipeline for over 10 years. While working in Fargo, Randy purchased his home farm in Trail, while commuting back on weekends. It was during this time that he met Tracy Peterson and found they shared a love for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and 4-wheeling. They were united in marriage on April 16, 2010 and raised two daughters, Michelle and Erin. For the last several years Randy worked at DigiKey in Thief River Falls until his recent retirement.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Tracy; his son, Derrick Finseth; his stepdaughters, Michelle and Erin Sundquist; his mother, Patricia Finseth; his siblings, Becky Melcher, Danny (Mary) Finseth, Beverly (Nick) Fenno, Janet (Jenny) Rand, Jill (Vici) Finseth, Richard Finseth, Michael (Roxanne) Finseth; mother-in-law, Sonja Steile of Gully; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Finseth; and father-in-law, Ronald Steile.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural Trail, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Family greeted friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Interment was in Vernes Lutheran Cemetery.
