Aurora, CO – Lorna Gayle (Moe) Larsen, 79, of Aurora, CO, passed away April 27, 2024, at the Denver Hospice Inpatient Care Center, with her daughter by her side.
Lorna was born July 8, 1944, to Martha Adeline (Nabben) and Joseph Manvel Moe of rural Thief River Falls. The youngest of three children, Lorna attended elementary school in Holt, and graduated from Lincoln Senior High in Thief River Falls. She was baptized and confirmed at Satersdal Lutheran Church.
After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree from Moorhead State College, Lorna moved to Ada. She taught High School English in nearby Borup. In 1967, Lorna was married to David Volkerding of Ada. They had one daughter, Ann Marie.
Lorna moved to Southern Arizona and married Daniel Larsen in 1987. They built their home in the foothills of the San Cayetano Mountains in Rio Rico, AZ.
Education, reading, and music were Lorna’s passions. She was a devoted and respected teacher in the Santa Cruz Unified Schools for 22 years. During that time she enjoyed working in the elementary libraries, leading the gifted reading program, and teaching third grade. Lorna shared her love of the keyboard by accompanying several church choirs and soloists, providing piano lessons in her home, and playing the organ at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Nogales, AZ.
In 2020, Lorna moved to Denver, CO, to live closer to her daughter. She quickly made dear friends, always enjoying their coffee chats, lunches, and social hours.
Lorna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Eric Campbell; grandsons, MAJ Cole (Stephanie) and CPT Alex Campbell; and great-grandson, Rory Campbell. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn (Roger) Nygaard and brother, Ronnie (Barbara) Moe; and Daniel’s children, Rebecca Larsen, Jan (Richard) Fehr, and Mark (Mindy Micek) Larsen; and grandchildren, Katherine (Kevin) Pfitzinger, Tristan Fehr, James and Sonja Larsen.
Lorna was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband.
Internment and Committal of the Earthly Remains Ceremony will take place at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Nogales, AZ, at a later date.
