Thief River Falls – Evert Lorence Langelett of Thief River Falls, was born December 20, 1936, in Bray Township, Pennington County, to August and Claire (Wesenberg) Langelett. Evert was the youngest of twelve children. At age 7, his father passed away from an infection. He had to man up and help take care of the farm. Evert enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping. Often he would bring home fish or rabbits for supper. Evert graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in May of 1955.
After high school Evert moved to St. Louis, MO, where he attended trade school to become a diesel mechanic. Evert moved to the Twin Cities and went to work for Allis Chalmers Tractors. He attended Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he heard of a mission group called Operation Mobilization. He joined the mission and made four overland trips from Brussels, Belgium to India as a driver and a mechanic during the 1960s.
On June 1, 1968, Evert married Betty Bagaas from Argyle. After marriage Evert ran his own business, Midwest Hardware and Wholesale, wholesaling cutting tools for over 50 years. Evert and Betty had two sons, George and Einer. Evert remained a lifelong hunter and active member of the Minnesota Deer Hunter’s Association. As a family, they attended and served at the First Baptist Church, Thief River Falls.
After a lengthy battle with deteriorating health, Evert was promoted to Glory, Friday May 24, 2024, at his home in Thief River Falls, at age 87.
Evert was preceded in death by his mother and father; and ten siblings: August, Alfred, Harold, Arthur, Mabel, Lillie, Margaret, Crist, Bob, and Dave Langelett.
Evert is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, George (Lara) and Einer; two grandchildren, Ian and Ariana Langelett; and his sister, Eleanor Siltman, who lives in the state of Washington. Evert lived his life to help everyone hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
A memorial service was held at the Evangelical Free Church, Thief River Falls, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Visitation was one hour before the memorial service.
Because Evert has donated his body to science, burial will be at a later date.
