Newfolden – Lorraine Halvorson, 76, of Newfolden, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls.
Lorraine “Rene” Josephine Arnould was born May 31, 1948, daughter of Camille and Winifred (Evans) Arnould at Fort William, Ontario Canada. She was raised in Rainy River, Ontario, Canada and attended school there until she was 16 years old. She moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba to be with her sister. She and several of her friends went to France to study. When she returned to Winnipeg, she met and married Rudy Gerling, and to this union two sons were born, Rudy Jr. and Raynold.
In 1991 she moved to Thief River Falls and attended Northland Technical College and received a degree in sales and marketing.
On May 6, 1996, she was united in marriage to Robert Halvorson in Thief River Falls and gained two sons and a daughter, Kyle, Keegan and Kayla. The couple made their home near Newfolden. She loved the children and most of her life she worked as a Para in the public schools in the area but spent her last several years at the Viking public school.
Lorraine enjoyed baking, bringing baked goods to the school for the staff and students. She also enjoyed picking berries in the forest, flower gardening, going on walks, and fishing for many years on the Lake of the Woods and in Canada.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Halvorson of Newfolden; son, Rudy (Sarah) Gerling Jr. of Niagara, Ontario, Kyle (Kimberly) Halvorson of Park River, ND, Keegan (Christina) Halvorson of Argyle, and Kayla (Jon) Leader of Newfolden; grandchildren, Katelynn, Gavinn, Hannah, Joshua, Tameka, Adrian, Elijah, Zaiven, Drew, Harper and Rhett; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Oaklyn, Grady, and Wrenley; sister, Camie Mitchell of Libeu, Manitoba; Canadian nieces and nephews, Bill (Tara) Mitchell, Colinda Mitchell, Ella Mitchell; father- and mother-in-law, Harris (RaeAnn) Halvorson. Lorraine is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Davin (Baryth Halvorson), Jodie (Gene) Holthuson, Tammy (Scott) Magner, Julie (Ed) Gronwald, Nancy (Dave) Kragness, Danni (Candy) Halvorson and Alicia Baker; and so many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends in Minnesota and Canada that are too numerous to mention!
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents; son, Raynold; brother, Victor; brothers-in-law, Ken Mitchell, Mark Halvorson; and mother-in-law, Loretta Halvorson.
The funeral for Lorraine will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, with pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
