Roseau – Joanne Marie Roseen of Roseau passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with her loving family by her side.
Joanne was born September 11, 1943, in Warroad, the daughter of John and Evangeline (Lucier) Pick. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warroad.
Growing up she was active in cheerleading, yearbook, choir, GAA and helping her father on the mink ranch. She also worked as a waitress at Page’s Café during high school.
In 1961, Joanne graduated from Warroad High School and then attended college at Bemidji State University studying English and Art.
On September 28, 1963, she was united in marriage to Wayne Roseen at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. To this union three children were born, Traci, Terry and Kelly.
Joanne worked for Gertie Hetteen at Northern Upholstery, sewing for Polaris in the early years and helped Wayne on the farm in Malung. In 1976, they purchased the Trading Post Gift Shop in Warroad and ran it until a tornado destroyed the business in 2006. In the off season, she worked at Coast-to-Coast in Roseau.
When the kids were young, she volunteered at the Malung and Roseau schools, teaching Junior Great Books, helping with the PTA, school carnivals and post prom parties. Joanne enjoyed making and decorating cookies for the kids’ school events and also helped create the first Ram Mascot for Roseau High School.
She enjoyed canning, making lefsa, lutefisk, baking cookies and excelled at making pies. She also enjoyed gardening in the summer and sewing with the quilters at Moe Lutheran Church in the winter. She was very artistic, drawing pictures for her friends and family.
Joanne loved the outdoors and had a real passion for deer hunting and often told the nurses in the hospital that she was a deer hunter.
She enjoyed going to the cabin at Sandy Shores and spending time with their neighbors.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Wayne; her daughters Traci (Noel) Joppru of Thief River Falls, Kelly (Chad Merritt) Roseen of Fargo; daughter-in-law Karin Roseen of Maplewood; grandchildren, Heather (Travis) Blumer, Amber Juhl, Jesse Foster, Taylor Roseen, Luke Roseen, Jacob (Mattie) Merritt; Great-grandchildren, Hayden Foster, Rowen Blumer, Astaire Juhl, Samara Merritt and Canute Merritt; Sister, Kathy (Dale) Moser; sisters-in-law, Deloris Schmock, Mertrice Cole, Barb Roseen; brother-in-law, Randy Holwell; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son, Terry; granddaughter, Kristie; her parents, sister, Lorraine Kellogg; father- and mother-in-law, Albin and Mable Roseen and several other in-laws.
The funeral service for Joanne will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Moe Lutheran Church, Roseau, with Reverend Dave Swonger officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be held at Malung Cemetery, rural Roseau.
A time for gathering will be held Thursday from 5-7 pm at Helgeson Funeral Home, Roseau.
