Thief River Falls – Carol M. Halvorson, of Thief River Falls, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Lilac Homes in Moorhead, at the age of 79.
Carol M. Hall was born on January 19, 1945, in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Olaf and Mayme (Evenson) Hall. Carol was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended elementary school at the Holt School in Holt, and graduated from Marshall County Central in 1963.
On December 27, 1963, Carol was united in marriage to Harlan Halvorson at Rindal Lutheran Church. They made their home in Warroad, after their son, Jeff was born in 1964. Carol was a secretary at the new Marvin Windows. After a few years they moved back to Thief River Falls where their daughter Janine was born in 1968. Carol worked various administrative jobs in the area. In 1976 Carol and Harlan had a new house built on County Road 62, right outside of Thief River Falls, where they spent their remaining years together.
Carol’s favorite pastimes included reading, fishing with Harlan, outings with her sisters Lenore and Janice, church activities, and visiting with her kids and grandkids.
Carol is survived by her husband, Harlan; children, Jeff (Audrey) Halvorson and Janine (Halvorson) Nelson; grandchildren, Jordan Nelson, Jake Nelson, Jesse Nelson, Ashley Heller, and Josh Halvorson; great-grandson, Rowan Nelson; brother, David (Dee) Hall; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Halvorson; her father and mother, Olaf and Mayme Hall; step-father, Carl Aune; brother, Vernon Hall; sisters, Janice (Hall) Schmitke, and Lenore (Hall) Wold; and several special nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Alex Amiot officiating. Burial followed at Rindal Lutheran Cemetery, rural Viking.
Visitation took place from 5–7 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation also took place one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church.
