Thief River Falls – Bertine Swanson, 104, of rural Thief River Falls, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at her residence.
Bertine Larson was born November 11, 1920, in Equality Township, Oklee, the daughter of Thor and Engeborg (Nereson) Larson. She was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church located north of Oklee. She attended Sunnyside Country School. Bertine worked on the family farm and later worked in Grand Forks, ND, at the Ryan Hotel and Golden Hour Café.
On November 25, 1954, Bertine was united in marriage to Myles Swanson. The couple made their home on a farm in Mayfield Township, Pennington County, where they continued to live. They retired from farming in 1980. Myles died in 2008, and Bertine continued to live on the farm.
She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Plummer, and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, flowers, gardening and most of all, spending time with family.
Bertine is survived by sons, David (Esther) Swanson, Leslie, AR, and Duane (Vickie) Swanson, St. Hilaire; four grandchildren, Sam, Sarah, Justin, and Lindsay; nieces and nephews, Myron (Marie) Wardner, Helen (Dennis) Sullivan, Dennis Linder, Elaine (Dennis) McGeary, Sandra (Patrick) Halligan, Bonnie Howe and Linda (Lloyd) Wallace.
She was preceded in death by husband, Myles; parents; brothers and sisters, Lars Larson, Tarjei Larson, Henry Larson, Mabel Moe, Elmer Larson, Thea Howe, Clara Wardner and Hilda Linder; and an infant sister.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, rural Oklee.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, with Reverend Jonathan Dodson officiating.
Burial was at Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery, rural Plummer.
