Strandquist – Ruby Junell Tanner passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Ruby was born on May 7, 1954, in Thief River Falls, to Floyd and Junis (Sorter) Tanner. She was baptized, attended Sunday school, and was confirmed at Emmanuel Free Lutheran Church (Ringbo) in rural Holt. She grew up on the family farm near Middle River and graduated from Middle River High School with the Class of 1973.
Ruby worked at the turkey plant in Thief River Falls before moving to Strandquist for a time. She later settled in Roseau, where she was employed at Polaris until her retirement. Following retirement, she returned to Strandquist.
Ruby enjoyed gardening, baking, watching TV, and spending time at the casino. She loved visiting with friends and family over the phone, working on color pencil pictures, and solving sudoku puzzles. Known for her generosity, she often ordered extra just to share with others. She had a deep love for her dog and cats.
She is survived by her son, Jeffery Tanner (Holly Hanson) of Karlstad; siblings, Archie Tanner (Sally) of Glyndon, Betty Moen of Thief River Falls, and Gary Tanner (Opal) of Middle River; brother-in-law, James Erickson of Lake Bronson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Junis; sister, Sally Erickson; an infant son; brother-in-law, Marvin Moen; and great-nephew, Justin Haugtvedt. Per Ruby’s request, no services are planned at this time. A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be held at First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River.
