St. Hilaire – Gordon Leroy Johnson, 94, of St. Hilaire, went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls.
Gordon was born on June 28, 1930, in Woodside Township, Polk County, to Alfred Peter and Gladys Rudella (Strand) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Maple Lake Church and attended Woodland Elementary School.
On September 4, 1954, Gordon married Dorothy Arlene Nelson in Erskine. To this union four children were born, Deborah, Ronald, Wayne, and Nancee.
Gordon worked in construction and raised poultry on their farm east of St. Hilaire. He worked for the Pennington County Highway Department from 1985 until retiring in 2008. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He found joy in planting trees, tending to lawn care, and gardening alongside Dorothy. He also cherished traveling to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gordon is survived by his children, Deborah (Rance) Berggren, Ronald (Debra) Johnson, and Wayne (Bev) Johnson; grandchildren, Mitchell (Melissa), Kari (Mike), Nicki (Marc), Chelsea (Ryan), Preston (Kristina), Chasity (Travis); great-grandchildren, Ashton, Austin, Aren, Arik, Avory, Azalee, Brandon, Mariah, Jayden, Chase, Blake, Dawson, Mikaela, Ryder, Henry, Tell, Morgan, Abigail, Knox, Brooks, and Nash; great-great grandchildren, Luca, Astrid, Layla, and one more on the way, Onyx; sister, Arlene Schipper; brothers, Wesley (Di) Johnson and Kevin (Jan) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Marvie Johnson, Barbara Lee, and Gladys Fladhammer; brother-in-law, Adolph (Carolyn) Nelson; as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; infant daughter, Nancee; a granddaughter, Angie; his parents; sister, Lois (Duwayne) Schultz; and brothers, David Johnson and Darrel Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 5–7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, followed by a service celebrating Gordon’s life at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Free Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
Burial will take place at St. Hilaire Community Cemetery in St. Hilaire.
Gordon’s memory will be cherished by those who knew him.
