New Hope – Marilyn Alice (Wold) Rugland passed away on February 25, 2025, at Woodlake in New Hope, weeks prior to her 95th birthday.
Marilyn was born on March 7, 1930, to Adolph C. Wold and Evelyn Brandt in Minneapolis.
Marilyn moved to Malung, in 1944. On November 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Stephen Rugland of Pine Creek. In 1961 they moved to Thief River Falls where Steve worked for Arctic Cat. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, was an excellent cook, baker and blueberry picker and she cared for several relatives who needed help. She also thoroughly enjoyed bowling on a league with her friends called the Tuesday Tootsie Rollers.
Marilyn continued to live in Thief River Falls where she worked for Arctic Cat until her retirement in 1997. Marilyn was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
In May 2010 she moved to Elk River to live with her sister Deloris Benson, then moved to an apartment in Plymouth. After a stroke, she lived in assisted living in Maple Grove, before needing more care and residing at Woodlake in New Hope.
She is survived by sons, Rex (Cheryl) of Plymouth, and Blaine (Julie) of Coon Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer Rugland, Andrea Chase (Tom), Heather (Kevin) Lam, Tracy (Matt) Dunsmoor and Ashley Rugland; great-grandchildren, Tyson, Tanner, Ethan, Cooper, Owen, Samuel, Ashtyn, Isabel, Aubrey, and Evan; sisters, Beda Sander and Sharon Lund; and brother, Dale Wold.
Marilyn was preceded in death by husband, Steve; son, Stewart; granddaughter, Rachel; sister, Deloris Benson; brothers, Curtis Brandt, Clayton Brandt and Edson Brandt.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church in Plymouth, on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Visitation will take place at 10 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m. The service will be livestreamed at: spdlc.org/livestream.
Interment will be at a later date in Thief River Falls.
