Thief River Falls – Carol Maureen Waswick, of Thief River Falls, passed away surrounded by love and family on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
She was born on February 21, 1939, in Fargo, ND, to Miles Bismarck Benz and Beatrice Marian Hardland Benz.
Carol’s life was filled with dedication to her family, her faith, and her passions. She graduated from Abercrombie High School in 1956 as valedictorian and went on to Wahpeton State School of Science. She enjoyed her career in legal secretarial and abstract work showcasing her sharp intellect and attention to detail.
Carol married Leonard Waswick in 1958 and became mother to six kids. A woman of many talents, Carol dreamed of a large family, life on a farm and a pet by her side. She was surrounded by kids, farm animals and gardens. She found a lifelong joy in family, music, and church along with sewing, quilting, and gardens.
As her kids grew up and grandkids came along, she started a “Cousin-Fest” where no parents were allowed and memories abound to this day of those times among her grandkids.
In later years, a new grandkid came along. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (her beloved “kiddos,”) kept her full of smiles and young at heart. She added, watching her chickadees, traveling, doing lots of volunteering, and she found her own special ways to help others behind the scenes.
Carol is survived by her kids, Celeste (Roger) Hoffman, Deanne (Dan) Skogen, Mark Waswick, Lynette (Bryan-deceased) Kirkland, Paul Waswick, and Steve Waswick; along with her cherished 14 grandkids; 26 great-grandkids; many family members and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, some family, and friends.
Carol’s unwavering love and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to shine through her family and the countless lives she impacted.
