Thief River Falls – Lowell Naeseth passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Lowell Marvin Naeseth was born on October 13, 1938, in Rollis Township, NE of Gatzke, on the family farm, to Martin and Myrtle (Johnson) Naeseth. He was baptized at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke. Lowell attended the Engevik country school, four miles east of Gatzke, and then Middle River High School through the 9th grade.
After the passing of his father in 1952, as the result of an accident, Lowell returned to the family farm full-time. He also worked for farmers near Donaldson and Kennedy, for a couple of seasons, and then farmed near Stephen for four seasons.
Lowell entered the US Army in December of 1961. He took basic training at Ft. Carson, CO where he trained in artillery. He was then transferred to Ft. Riley, KS before being honorably discharged in December of 1963.
In 1961, Lowell was united in marriage to Rosemary Johnson. Together they raised their children, Valerie and Randy, on the family farm near Thief River Falls.
Lowell worked various jobs in his life. He worked with his relatives in the state of Washington picking apples and cherries. After returning back to Minnesota, he worked for Ness Construction in Mahnomen for three years, then Hartz Foods in Thief River Falls, for 25 years delivering groceries, and finally, Hartz Truckline for five years before retiring. He then enjoyed driving semi for Don Dyrdal Farms for five seasons.
Lowell married Corene Bottom at the Thief River Falls Courthouse and they made their home in Thief River Falls. Corene passed away in 2003. Lowell was married to Pat Dunning from 2005–2008.
Lowell’s hobbies included shooting, fishing, gunsmithing, and reloading. Lowell took the 2nd amendment very seriously. Lowell also enjoyed fishing at Rocky Point and Red Lake. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends across the state in later years.
Survivors include his daughter, Valerie (Roch) Cherry of Esko, son, Randy (Cari) Naeseth of Valley City, ND; five grandchildren, Derek (Jenny) Bruggeman, Camille (Josh) Ingle, Missy Bruggeman, Brandon (fiancée, Kassidy Olson) Naeseth and Colin Naeseth; three great-grandchildren, Julia Lallier, Jace Bruggeman and Emmett Bruggeman; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Naeseth; mother, Myrtle Naeseth; brothers, Milton Naeseth and Merle Naeseth; as well as many aunts and uncles
The service to honor Lowell Naeseth will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Reverend Stephanie White officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Moose River Cemetery, Gatzke.
