Prudenville, MI – David “Dave” LaRue St. John, Sr., a man of spirited character and loving nature, passed away peacefully at his home on December 29, 2025. Born on June 13, 1940 in Minneapolis to the late Arthur St. John and Isabel Anderson Patton, Dave’s life was a tapestry of rich experiences and enduring relationships.
Dave’s journey through life was marked by his service to his country, having served in the U.S. Army. It was during this time that he had the memorable experience of meeting Elvis Presley, not once but twice, in Germany and at Fort Hood, Texas. These encounters were among the many stories he loved to share with his family and friends.
After his military experience Dave was married to Phyllis Stella St John. Four children were born into this union: David (Janine) St. John, Jr., Gregory St. John, Jeffery St. John and Tara (Shawn) Osborne.
Dave built a successful career in the aircraft industry, retiring from Bombardier Lear Jet in Wichita, Kansas.
His dedication to his work was only matched by his passion for life and the interests that filled it. Dave had a passion for music, with a particular fondness for Stevie Ray Vaughan. His creative spirit found an outlet in photography, capturing moments that would have otherwise slipped away. He found joy in his younger years running, riding bicycles, riding his Harley Davidson and walking his dogs several miles a day, which he did well into his 80s, and spending time with his children and their families, whom he loved beyond measure.
Dave is survived by his wife, Kimberly Bachelder St. John; his children; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He will be missed by the multitude of family members and friends that he made over the years. It was said, and it was true, that Dave never met a stranger and he loved everyone.
No services are pending at this time.
Donations may be made in the name of Dave St. John to www.psp.org to help find a treatment and/or cure for the rare and fast progressing disease that took our beloved husband, father, family member and friend from us too soon.
