Andover – Emil Victor Magnuson, of Andover, joined his beloved Joan in heaven on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, after a short battle with COVID and pneumonia.
He was born to Anna (Hanson) and John Magnuson on the family farm in Thief River Falls, on May 25, 1933. Emil graduated from high school in 1951 and worked at Honeywell, Inc., in Minneapolis before being drafted in the U.S. Army in 1953. Emil served two years in Korea. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and taught industrial arts at Anoka High School.
On September 4, 1955, Emil married Joan Harriet Winter. They bought and sold antiques, traveled near and far, and always served a fruit salad in a watermelon basket at family gatherings. Emil enjoyed a special 30 years hunting deer, grouse and chasing the wild goose from the property he owned with family and friends in the Four Town area. He loved hearing the wolves howling at night and listening to the whispering pines he helped plant. Lifetime friends Don Narverud, Ron Lindberg and Herman Loberg were all part of the memories made and cherished.
Emil was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brothers, Malcom (Eleanor), John (Nell), and Glen (Vyrlee).
Nieces and nephews survive him.
The family wishes to thank neighbor, Carmen Kastner for faithfully caring for Emil at home in his later years.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, April 10, 2026, with visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 1601 4th Ave. South, in Anoka; with a private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
