Fourtown – John Benson, 87, of Fourtown, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Warroad Care Center, Warroad.
John Alfred Benson was born March 30, 1938, in Thief River Falls, the son of Alfred and Sylvia (Jokela) Benson. He attended rural school and then attended Goodridge High School in Goodridge.
He was drafted into the United States Army and entered into service September 12, 1961, where he served for 2 years. He was honorably discharged in 1962.
John never married.
He moved to Valley City, ND where he worked for Benson Nursery with his dad. He also remodeled homes and did landscaping for 20 years. John also worked maintenance for Valley City College until 2002 when he retired and moved to Grygla (Fourtown) where he continued to do landscaping and remodeling.
John was a member of the Middle River Legion Club and served as Minnie Township Supervisor. John enjoyed his “hobby farm,” fishing, gardening and working on old tractors.
He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Benson of Valley City, ND; special friend, Joyce Kuju Lambeth; along with many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents; brother, David; and sister, Mary and Bill Wager.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with Pastor Marilyn Grafstrom officiating.
Visitation will start at 5 p.m.
Burial will be at Lone Oak Cemetery, Fourtown.
