Thief River Falls – Lorraine Marion Mostrom of Thief River Falls passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in rural Trail. Burial was held at Nazareth Church Cemetery.
Lorraine Marion Mostrom was born August 7, 1925 daughter of Knute and Gladys (Kolstrand) Hanson at Hibbing. She was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church. She was raised in Hickory Township and attended rural school. At the age of 16, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she worked as a waitress and also for a farmer near Grafton, ND. Lorraine also did piecework for Ladysmith Designs of Bemidji.
On January 11, 1945, Lorraine was united in marriage to Ernest Aleksander Mostrom at the home of Cora and Jorgen Oftelie, rural Trail. The couple made their home on the Mostrom farm in Hickory Township.  They were married for 72 years.
Lorraine was very active on the farm alongside Ernest, taking care of the lawn and garden. She was an excellent seamstress, and created fancy work, embroidery, quilts and crochet work. She followed Ernest on his construction jobs to the Gunflint Trail, Grand Forks Air Force Base, and the Iron Range, all the while taking care of the children. A woman of deep faith, she read the Bible and devotions daily.
Lorraine was active at Nazareth Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid group.  She was usually the last one out of the kitchen.
Lorraine was devoted to her family, parents and siblings, and especially of her children and grandchildren.  She was proud of their accomplishments, but expected good behavior and good grades. A modest woman, not given to anything “fancy,” she prided herself on living simply.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Phyllis Mostrom of St. Paul, Deborah (Larry Liden) Mostrom of Thief River Falls, Randall (Laura) Mostrom of Trail; grandchildren: John (Susan) Flaagan of St. Paul, Sarah (Brian) Kading of Thief River Falls, Emily (Mike Milinovich) Mugaas of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren: Cassandra Forest of Seattle, WA, Jordin and Brooklyn Kading of Thief River Falls; sister, Irene (Clyde) Bendickson of Lavinia, MT; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband Ernest, parents Knute and Gladys Hanson, sisters Doris Mostrom and Mary Jane Good; brothers Lester Hanson and Clarence Hanson.
