Arthur J. Buringrud was born on March 28, 1922 in Thief River Falls, the son of Andrew and Mina Josephine (Phillipson) Buringrud. He attended school in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School.
Following high school, Art entered into the service with the United States Army on September 30, 1942. He served during World War II. Art was honorably discharged in 1943.

It’s a good town to grow up in…and great for a long life.”
Art worked for many years as the Postmaster for the United States Postal Service in Thief River Falls. As he couldn’t sit still when he retired, he kept busy delivering Meals on Wheels, which he said was a great experience for him.
Art was also active in many other organizations: the Mason’s, Shriner’s, Knights Templar and the Golden Pioneers. Art and Virginia visited the Heritage Community Center daily for lunch. This is also where Art helped with bingo. He kept busy visiting friends and acquaintances at the Thief River Care Center and Oakland Park Communities. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
