Thief River Falls – Bonnie Tunberg, 89, of Thief River Falls went to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND with her loving family at her side.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Bonnie Jean Jernberg was born on November 10, 1928 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Alice Edberg. She was baptized and confirmed at the Mission Covenant Church in Roseau.
Bonnie graduated from Roseau High School and moved to Thief River Falls, where she met her husband, Wally while working at Johnnie’s Café across the street from Tunberg Motor Company.
Bonnie was united in marriage to Wallace Tunberg on June 4, 1949 at Roseau. To Bonnie and Wally three children were born: Thomas, Patricia, and Jeffrey. The couple made their home and raised their family in Thief River Falls.
Bonnie was a homemaker, a community volunteer, and very active in Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked for a time at Elaine’s Women’s Clothing Store.
Bonnie had a sacrificial love for her family. She enjoyed socializing with a large circle of friends. She loved entertaining. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and outdoor activities, as well as summer and winter travel. Bonnie was tirelessly involved with her children’s and grandchildren’s lives and activities.
Bonnie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star, and hospital auxiliary.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Tom Tunberg of Minneapolis, and Jeff (Jill) Tunberg of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Jaime (Matt) Wood of Rapid City, SD, Andrea (Nate) Ursel of Shakopee, Fabian (Mataya) Tunberg of Thief River Falls, and Juliet Tunberg of Thief River Falls; great-grandchildren, Bailey Ursel, Tanner Wood, Jacob Ursel, Taylor Wood, and Grace Tunberg; brother, James Jernberg of Terrebonne, OR; sister-in-law, Ardis Tunberg of Thief River Falls; and many dear friends.
