Anne K. Muehlbauer Barnick, 97

Thief River Falls – On April 25th our loving mother slipped away to join her husband and her family up in heaven…
A mass will be said for her at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. According to her wishes, she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jacob Barnick, at a later date in Sandstone.
On March 11, 1921 Anna Katherine Muehlbauer was born to August and Anna Muehlbauer in Sandstone. She went to school there and graduated Valedictorian of her class, going on to college to pursue a teaching career.
Anne was a grade school teacher for seven years in Santa Paula, California, then came back to marry Jacob Barnick in 1948. They started with a furniture store in Sandstone, before moving to Thief River Falls in 1956, where Jake had built Barnick’s Furniture Mart, south of Thief River Falls. Together they made their business grow and prosper on land that is now the current Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut & Greenwood Crossing property.
Anne was a devoted, caring mother to their six children: Joan, Susan, Jackie, Jim, Mark & Bob who loved her very much. Her Catholic religion was a part of her daily life and a great comfort to her. She loved to read, do crosswords, visit with her friends & watch sports on TV, especially her “Twins”.
In later years, most of Anne and Jacob’s children would get together for a yearly August vacation… playing board games, cards, watching/playing sports, having visitors, a few trips out to the casino & mainly enjoying each other. Jake passed away in 2006, on their 58th wedding anniversary.
In 2013, right after Christmas, Mark & Robert moved her down to Irving, Texas, where she continued to have an apartment and live on her own. She really enjoyed the weather down there and having them stop in several times a day, as they were just a building away from her.
She is survived by her children: Joan Baker, Thief River Falls; Susan Barnick Mesch, Sierra Vista, AZ; Jacqueline (Larry Burr) Barnick, Green Brae, CA; James (Michelle) Barnick, San Diego, CA; Mark Barnick, Irving, TX; Robert Barnick, Irving, TX. Her grandchildren: Lynn (Michelle) Baker, St, Hilaire; Elisa (David) Mesch Baber, Alexandria, VA; Kara Mesch, Scottsdale, AZ; Anya Mesch, Sierra Vista, AZ; five great-grandchildren, and her life-long friend, Ursula Dahl.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jake; son-in-law, Joseph Mesch; sisters: Fran Larkin, CA; Rosalie Reiss, CA & Mary Monahan, CA; both her & Jake’s parents. A00003B2018MY02
