Wendy L. Sandsmark, 36

Wannaska – Wendy Sandsmark, 36, Wannaska, formerly of Grygla, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at her residence.
Funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla. Burial followed at Valle Cemetery in Benville Township, Beltrami County.
Wendy Lee Sandsmark was born on October 7, 1981 in Thief River Falls, the youngest of three beautiful daughters born to Wesley and Kathy (Harbott) Sandsmark. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla.
Wendy attended school in Grygla, graduating with the class of 2000 which was the same school year Wendy was crowned Homecoming Queen. Wendy went on to earn an Associate Degree in Cosmetology from the Northland Community and Technical College.
In the fall of 2000, Wendy started dating the love of her life, Kris Brateng. This relationship blossomed and in the spring of 2011 they welcomed a daughter, Kensley Kayann. They lived in Marshall County for many years and in 2016 made their home on their farm near Skime.
Wendy worked at the Hartz Store in Grygla, Sheers Salon in Thief River Falls and most recently was secretary at Farmers Union in Grygla.
Wendy enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, gardening, vacations to Georgia, Alaska & South Dakota, was a great cook, and was extremely devoted to her family. She loved animals from day one, didn’t matter if cat, dog, cow, horses, she loved them all. She worked along with Kris on the farm and there wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle.
Wendy’s feisty, happy, bubbly, caring personality could lite up a room when she walked in. She was known to keep everybody in line, especially Kristopher “her Snookums,” her father, and the guys in the shop and Ag! Everybody loved Wendy! Wendy will be remembered as a wonderful mother to Kensley, her pride and joy who she loved with all her heart.
Survivors include the love of her life, Kris Brateng and their daughter, Kensley of Wannaska; parents, Wesley and Kathy Sandsmark of Grygla; sisters, Michelle (Lynn) Baker of St. Hilaire and Robyn (Dale) Westerlund of Thief River Falls; nieces & nephews, Landen, Trentyn, Alex, Lucas (Chelsey), Devon, Kaylee; great-nephew, Kenneth; uncles, Wade (Sue) Harbott, Doug (Laurie) Harbott, Rick (Paulette) Harbott, Hal (Nancy) Harbott; father-in-law, Kenneth Brateng and friend Joyce; sisters-in-law, Jo (Harry) Hamilton, Kami (Stu) Hamilton, Jenny Shepard, Kathy (Randy) Stavness, Jodelle (Troy) Champlin; brother-in-law, Jamie (Tami) Brateng; many other relatives and friends; and her dog, Ringo.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Milton and Amber Sandsmark, Del and Thora Harbott; and mother-in-law, Joann Brateng.
