Gloria F. Wheeler, 84

Thief River Falls – Gloria Wheeler, 84, of Thief River Falls, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls with her loving family at her side.
Funeral service was held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Burial was at the Rice Lake Lutheran Cemetery near Braham.
Gloria Faye Wheeler was born August 25, 1933 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Nordstrom) Evenson. She attended Lincoln High School graduating with the class of 1952. She then earned her Cosmetology Degree from Robinson’s School of Beauty in Minneapolis and began work at a beauty salon in Minneapolis.
On December 29, 1956, Gloria was united in marriage to Eldon Wheeler. They made their home in the Twin Cities area and to this union three children were born, Vickie, Brian and Keith. On Valentine’s Day in 1960, Eldon was killed in an automobile accident in Golden Valley. Gloria then dedicated her life to raising her children. The family returned to Thief River Falls in 1967. Gloria instilled in her kids to, “Remember who you are!”
As the kids grew older, Gloria worked as a waitress at Grandma’s café, as a retail clerk at a second hand store; and also worked with Lillian Rux in her catering business.
Gloria enjoyed ladies activities in the Evangelical Free Church and First Baptist Church in Thief River Falls. She rested in the peace that came from placing her faith in the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Gloria enjoyed sewing, quilting, and hairdressing and her focus was always on how she could help other people. Gloria’s legacy in Thief River Falls was to sew the “walker bags”, which are those little bags that people use with their walkers.
Survivors include Gloria’s loving children, Vickie Kolden of St. Hilaire, Brian (Diane) Wheeler of Circle Pines, and Keith (Beth) Wheeler of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Andrea (Ryan) Chastanet, Amy Wheeler, Alli (Andrew) Molden and Lindsay (Erick) Peterson; step-grandsons, Scott (Sara) Kolden, Jason (Tristy) Kolden, Ryan (Nachele) Kolden; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Evangeline “Van” Engelstad and Wallace “Wally” (Laurel) Evenson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; parents, Walter and Anna Evenson; son-in-law, Kendell Kolden; and brother-in-law, Cleo Engelstad.
