Carrie Arneberg was born May 19, 1924 in Fyresdal, Telemarken, Norway, daughter of Asbjorn and Anne (Moe) Arneberg. She came to the United States on a boat entering September 7, 1926 at New York, NY. The family moved to Oklee. Carrie was the oldest of three. Her siblings, Swen and Ole, were born here in the U.S.
Carrie was united in marriage to Clarence Dietz on October 26, 1945 and they made their home in Thief River Falls. Carrie worked as a waitress at the Mint and Kife’s Cafe. Their son Richard was born during this time. They lived in town until she and Clarence moved out to the farm in 1966 just north of Thief River Falls.
It was then that Carrie became a homemaker and a great mom again, at the young age of 42. The secret on how she stayed young was trying to keeping track of Debbie and Pepper, the dog, who would disappear out to the pasture to check on the cattle or some other area of the farm just out of Carrie’s sight. Debbie was never getting into any kind of mischief. As Debbie got older Carrie enjoyed teaching her to make lefsa, potato dumplings, homemade gravy, and many other foods and to this day Debbie still can’t make a pie crust, but not for a lack of trying.
Carrie enjoyed gardening, canning all the vegetables from the garden, making the best fruit pies from the trees in the yard, crocheting, sewing clothes for herself, Clarence, and Deb, playing cards, in later years doing word search and crossword puzzles, taking care of Missy and Libby, the dogs, making the best chicken and dumpling soup on the nights Deb had township meetings and making hot roast beef sandwiches for Larry, but that is a story for a later day.
Carrie is survived by daughter, Debra Dietz and her husband Larry Goulet of Thief River Falls; son, Richard (Giesela) Dietz of Hereford, AZ; grandsons, Michael Dietz of Tucson, AZ and Brian Dietz of Hereford, AZ; and three great grandchildren.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband Clarence (2010), her parents, two brothers, Swen and Ole Arneberg.
May her memory be blessed.
