McIntosh – Edward Eskeli, 88, of McIntosh, formerly of Plummer, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at McIntosh Senior Living, McIntosh.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer. Burial will be held at the Finnish Cemetery at Plummer.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Edward Eugene Eskeli was born on November 28, 1929 on the Eskeli Family Farm in Emardville Township, Red Lake County, the son of Nick and Ilmi (Marttila) Eskeli. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer. Edward graduated from Pershing High School in Plummer.
Edward entered the US Army November 3, 1952 and served his country until his honorable discharge August 29, 1955. He received the National defense medal and the Army of occupation medal. Following his discharge he returned to the family farm in Plummer where he milked cows and grain farmed until his retirement in 1995. In 2010 he moved to the McIntosh Senior Living where he has since resided.
Edward enjoyed hunting, playing cards, music and dancing. He watched the Vikings and Twins faithfully. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and the Plummer Legion. Eddie was very independent and took pride in everything he did. While he was a lifelong bachelor family was very important to Eddie and he kept himself busy keeping track of his siblings and their children.
Edward is survived by his sister-in-law, Fern Eskeli of Thief River Falls and many nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.
Edward is preceded in death by his siblings, Wilma (Tom) Huotari, Helen (Charlie) Fremling, Aini Eskeli, Leonard (Marcelline) Eskeli, Woodrow (Laina) Eskeli, Leo (Amelia) Eskeli, Martin Eskeli and Melvin (Rosemary) Eskeli, special friend Donna Kvasager.
