Duane C. Krohn, 82

Viking – Duane Krohn of Viking passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Funeral service for Duane will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking. Burial will be held at the Viking Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls from 5 to 7 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Duane Carl Krohn was born July 7, 1936 in Thief River Falls to Carl and Johanna (Jensen) Krohn. He was raised in the Viking area and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking. Duane attended Newfolden High School graduating in 1954. Following graduation, Duane moved to Minneapolis and worked for a short time before returning to the family farm at Viking.

On November 9, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mavis Jean Anderson at Salem Lutheran Church in Stephen. Mavis and Duane had five children: Rebecca, Marjorie, Lynne, Karen and Kenneth. The couple made their home on the Krohn family farm where they raised their family.

Duane enjoyed fishing, traveling, golfing, and participating in and watching sports. He played baseball and softball for many years and in the later years enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids participate in many different activities.

Duane was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Marshall Country Central School Board, in which he held many offices. He also served on the county extension and the American Dairy Association boards. He won many awards related to farming, including being a King Agassiz representative and an Honored Dairymen.

Duane is survived by his loving wife Mavis of 60 years; children Becky (Steve) Mikkelson of Moorhead, Marge Krohn of Woodbury, Lynne (Russ) Viker of Mahtomedi, Karen (Tom) Devine of Eau Claire, WI and Ken Krohn of Viking; grandchildren Jeremy Mikkelson, Jenna (Viker) Stewart, Nick Devine, Bailey Devine, and Courtney, Alex, and Samantha Krohn; great-grandchildren Claire Mikkelson, Wyatt Mikkelson, Maverick Stewart, Brooklyn Stewart, Easton Stewart, and Quincy Devine; sister Lois Weiss of Yuma, AZ, along with several nieces and nephews.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Johanna, grandson Justin Viker, and sister Janice Hunter.
