Ronald Duane Hanson, 89, passed away on August 6th, 2018. A private service was held on August 21st. Family Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Born in Thief River Falls, Ronald decided he wanted to see the world and joined the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict with two of his classmates in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned to Minnesota where he met and married his loving wife Jean.
After trying several occupations, Ronald went back to his true ambition and hired on with the Soo Line Railroad in 1956 as a fireman. Shortly thereafter he advanced to Engineer, where he remained for 30 years. After retirement he enjoyed traveling and being with his children and their families.
In his later years, as his health declined, Ronald was content to sit in his back yard and enjoy nature in his Grey Garden. He was fortunate to live independently in his own home right up to the very end.
Ronald could be curmudgeonly and grumpy but when you needed a friend or some help, our dad could be counted on to be there when you needed him. When the end came he was ready to be lifted by the loving arms of God to rejoin his wife, daughter and parents.
Ronald is survived by his sons, Doug (Jane) and Scott, and his loving daughter Julie (Reed) Peterson. He is also survived by his sister Ivanette (Norman) Johnson, as well as five grandchildren; Heather, Kayla and Abbie Peterson & Erik and Sara Hanson. He was also a loving Great Grandfather to Carter, Connor, Harper, Emery, Addie and Laney.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Thora Hanson, his devoted wife Jean and infant daughter Denise Noel.
