Susan R. Tieman, 62

Susan Tieman passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Reverend Kristin Ostercamp Officiating. Burial was held at the Bethany Cemetery near Thief River Falls.
Susan Rania Tieman was born March 30, 1956, in Thief River Falls. She was the daughter of Elwood and Rhodella (Tanem) Tieman. Susan was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and she was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She attended special education classes in the Thief River Falls school district. Later, she attended and worked at the Falls Day Activity Center and the Polk County DAC in Crookston.
Susie lived most of her life on the Tieman family farm in Kratka Township, Pennington County. In recent years, “Miss Susie” resided at Northwood Home in Red Lake Falls and Liberty Home in Crookston. She was always in good spirits. In spite of her physical and mental limitations, Susie made the best of her life through the help and love of her family, neighbors and friends. Susie was sweet and sincere to all. She was a “social butterfly” type, and always liked visiting with people and being at neighborhood gatherings and birthday parties.
Susie realized huge changes in recent years with the death of Rhodella in April 2015, and Elwood in June 2018. She missed her parents and would ask about them often. She looked at pictures of her family, friends, and neighbors every day.
Some of Susan’s favorite pastimes were shopping (especially Walmart and the Dollar Stores, where she could get lots of “stuff”), watching The Price Is Right, clipping coupons, watching movies (her favorite one was Father of the Bride, starring Steve Martin), doing math workbooks, writing out greeting cards, drinking coffee and diet pop, and playing Go Fish and Old Maid. Christmas was her favorite time of the year.
The great highlight of each year was the celebration of Susan’s birthday with invitations sent out to family, friends, and neighbors months ahead of time. Susie’s birthday celebrations were legendary with her mother and neighbors providing the cakes, ice cream, and hot dish. She glowed with delight when we sang “Happy Birthday” to her and prayed to bless the gathering. Susie loved being the birthday princess and getting all the attention that she deserved.
Survivors include her brother Curtis (Jean); nieces: Vanessa and Michelle Tieman; Uncle Wayne (Lenay) Tieman; Aunt Margie (Charles) Cleven; and Uncle Larry Tanem; and cousins, neighbors, and friends.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents: Wallace and Agnes Tieman and Ingmar and Evelyn Tanem; Uncles: Arnold, LeRoy “Mike”, and Jimmy Tanem; Aunt Judy Tanem; and neighbors and friends from Kratka and Smiley Townships.
Susie was blessed beyond measure by the love and care from her family, friends, and neighbors.
Blessings abound for “Miss Susie”.
