A third period goal by Bella Amiot provided all the offense that would be needed as second-seeded Thief River Falls shutout third-seeded East Grand Forks 1-0 in the Section 8A girls hockey semifinals Saturday, Feb. 9 at the East Grand Forks Civic Arena.

“It was a great high school hockey game,” said Thief River Falls Head Coach Brett Johnson. “Great action back and forth. Girls for both teams battled hard.

The scoreboard showed goose eggs for both teams after 34 minutes were in the books, with the Prowlers holding an 18-15 advantage in shots on goal during that span.

Amiot’s goal came off a point shot from Khloe Lund that deflected off Ava Sturgeon and found the stick of Amiot for a tap in.

Amiot’s goal came just 1:49 into the third period, which meant that the Green Wave would have plenty of time and opportunity to tie. East Grand Forks attempted nine shots on goal in the third and all nine were turned away by Thief River Falls goalie Faith Porter.

Up next, the Prowlers have a date with top-ranked Warroad Thursday night in Crookston. The Warriors are coming off a 16-0 semifinal thrashing of Detroit Lakes. The Warriors swept the Prowlers in the regular season with wins by 3-1 and 5-0 scores.

“Anything can happen,” Johnson said. “We have given ourselves a chance.”
