Prowler volleyball team drops matches to DGF, DL

The Thief River Falls volleyball team began the week with a season-high three-match winning streak intact. That winning streak is now a distant memory as the Prowlers fell below .500 on the year with back-to-back losses to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton and Detroit Lakes, Monday and Tuesday night, respectively.

The Prowlers hosted the DGF Rebels for their final home action of the season Monday night. It was the Prowlers’ annual Spikedown Cancer Night and a large and vocal crowd, many of whom were decked out in pink, cheered on the team.

Despite the large crowd, the Prowlers struggled to get into a ryhthm Monday night. The visiting Rebels raced to an early double-digit lead in the opening set and coasted to a 25-15 win. Things got a little closer in the second set, with the Rebels taking a 25-19 win.

The Prowlers looked like they would extend the match with a win in the third set. However, the Rebels scored the final two points of the match to take a 25-22 third set win to complete the sweep.

Another slow start hurt the Prowlers Tuesday night against the Lakers at Detroit Lakes High School. The host Lakers won the first two sets by scores of 25-12, before sealing the win with a 25-15 third set victory.

The Prowlers struggled to generate offense and finished with just 13 kills as a team.

The loss to the Lakers was the Prowlers’ third straight in the series. Thief River Falls’ last win over Detroit Lakes was a five-set win in 2019.
