Nearly 50 youth participated in the Pennington County Sportsmens Club Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday in Thief River Falls.

The Pennington County Sportsmens Club Youth Fishing Derby reported that 47 youth entered the tournament held Saturday in Thief River Falls. It’s the largest turnout the event has recorded. Some large fish were also caught.

Organizers said 27 Northern Pikes were weighed in for the competition, but many more were caught. They said there were a lot of smiling faces, and that many great prizes were awarded.

The top place was taken by Rease Stratton with a Northern Pike that weighed 4.82 pounds. Kycee Jorstad was close behind with a 4.30 pound Northern.

The other results were as follows:

Jayce Klaven 2.64 pounds; Roxy Baumann 2.24 pounds; Waylon Jones and Hank Jones with a 1.94-pound fish; Ryan Flaagan 1.86 pounds, and Amoré Lourens 1.86 pounds; Knute Hams with a 1.48-pound fish; Jax Rantanen with a 1.36-pound fish; and then in no particular order – Amya Stromsodt .38; Chase Champ .68; Gabe Bernier .64; Kayser Klaven .70; Logan Trevis .88; and Jaiven Westerman .66.
