Goodridge/Grygla controlled the clock and shut out Clearbrook-Gonvick 28-0 Friday night in Clearbrook. The Chargers rushed for 326 yards and four scores in the all-around dominant win for the road team.
“This was a great win for the Chargers, winning the Beast of the East traveling trophy,” said Goodridge/Grygla Head Coach John Wilebski. “Offensively, our line took command of the line of scrimmage, opening up some nice holes for our running backs.”
Senior Kehan Nelson had a banner night for the Chargers with 194 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
The Chargers also found success in the air with quarterback Blake Rychlock completing eight of 12 passes for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
“Passing, Rychlock had one of his best games, finding the open receiver on all routes, whether short, medium or deep,” Wilebski said. “This was great to see; the Chargers are going to need that from their veteran QB going forward if they are going to continue there winning ways.”
Defensively, the Chargers had big games from Rychlock, Gavin Aune and Carson Rubischko, who finished with 12, nine and eight tackles, respectively. Rychlock also recorded two sacks on the day.
“Defensively, the Chargers made a huge goal line stand to take back the momentum and put the Chargers in complete command and finish off the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears,” Wilebski said.
Up next for the Chargers is a rematch of the 2022 Section 8 9-Man championship game. The Bearcats defeated the Chargers in both meetings last season, 30-22 in the regular season finale and 35-20 in the championship game.
“Homecoming week is here and the Goodridge/Grygla Chargers host their biggest rival, the Kittson County Bearcats, with an afternoon contest. Kickoff 3 p.m. in Goodridge,” Wilebski said.
