The Thief River Falls girls basketball team defeated Badger/Greenbush-Middle River 62-37 Friday night at Greenbush-Middle River High School.

The Prowlers led by four at the break before breaking the game open with a 38-17 second half scoring edge.

“I thought that our defense played well,” said Thief River Falls Head Coach Paula Praska. “We did a good job containing Kenzie Dahl in the second half of the game. Once we settled down and moved the ball around, we got good looks. They didn’t have an inside presence to defend Avah, so we were able to get the ball inside to score.”

Thief River Falls senior Josie Peterson entered Friday night’s game with 995 career points and added nine more to join the 1,000-point club.

“Josie was five shy of 1000 to start the game,” Praska said. “She got a layup right away and then took a little bit to get the next basket. She came down hard on someone’s foot and twisted her ankle, so I got a little concerned. She went back in and ended up on the free throw line to get her fifth point. It is a great accomplishment to score 1,000, but it is also so great to see how supportive and excited her teammates were for her. Josie has worked hard to achieve this accomplishment.”

The Prowlers’ other active 1,000-point scorer, Avah Waldal, also had a big night with 30 points, with 16 of her 30 points coming in the second half.

Dahl was the Gators’ high-scorer with 12 points. She joined the 1,000-point club during the Gators’ appearance at the Pelican Rapids tournament over the holiday break, and the achievement was acknowledged Friday night in front of her home crowd.
