The Thief River Falls softball team made its 2018 debut with an 8-3 win over Red Lake Falls Tuesday afternoon at the Multi-Events Center.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Thief River Falls got on the board first, plating three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Number nine hitter Khloe Lund led off the inning with a walk and Alexa Rogalla smoked a ball to right center that bounced over the fence for a ground rule double. Lexi Huot followed that up with what amounted to a swinging bunt and beat the throw to first to load the bases.

Red Lake Falls starter Jalayna Kelly caught the corner of the plate on a called third strike on Camryn Schwab to get the first out, before Kylea Praska knocked in a run on a groundout to second. Number five hitter Josie Davis singled to drive in courtesy runner Eme Gunderson and Huot and give the Prowlers a 3-0 lead.

The Prowlers loaded the bases again in the fourth inning, forcing Red Lake Falls Head Coach Ben Hanson to make a pitching change. Shawna Larson moved from first base to the pitching circle and stranded all three inherited by striking out Rogalla, Huot and Schwab.

The Eagles threatened in the top of the fifth, loading the bases on hits by Oliva Bulger and Brooke Knott and a two-out walk by Kelsey Landman. Starting pitcher Alexa Rogalla worked out of the jam by striking out M
