A Lengby woman has been charged in Red Lake County District Court after she allegedly embezzled nearly $270,000 from her former employer in Plummer.

Chelsie Mae Johnson, 32, has been charged with felony theft by swindle, according to online court documents. Court records indicated that she is also known by the last names of Mowers and Murphy. She was arrested Wednesday, June 12 in Fosston.

Johnson appeared in court Friday, June 14 in Crookston, according to Red Lake County Sheriff Mitch Bernstein. Another court appearance has been set for Wednesday, June 19 in Red Lake Falls.

Johnson is accused of improperly using $269,524.25 in company funds for her own personal use from Nov. 29, 2016, to April 30, 2019. At the time, Johnson was working in accounts receivable and accounts payable at Triple D Construction. The complaint indicated that she was terminated from the position after the theft was discovered. The money was allegedly used to make online purchases and pay her student loans. Johnson allegedly admitted to the owners that she stole the money.
