Thief River Falls senior Jack Manning passed Kyle Sanden’s career point total of 1,549 to become Thief River Falls all-time leading scorer while leading Thief River Falls to an 83-61 boys basketball road win over East Grand Forks Tuesday night.

Manning was 23 points shy of tying Kyle Sanden for the top spot on the Prowlers’ all-times scoring list enter ing Tuesday night’s boys basketball game at East Grand Forks.

The Prowlers led 57-47 with 6:20 left to play when Manning broke Sanden’s record. Manning took a pass from Caleb Rosendahl at the top of the key, turned to his left and drove the lane for a right-handed layup that put him at 24 points for the game.

Manning would go on to score 32 points on a night where he hit 14 of 24 field goals, including a 1-for-3 effort beyond the arc, and he went 3-for-3 at the foul line. Manning added nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and four blocked shots to his stat line on the historic night.

Manning is now the active and all-time leading scorer in program history with 1,558 points and counting. Jon Hams has coached Manning for the past four seasons.

“Jack breaking the record is a great accomplishment showing how his game has grown since his freshman year,” Hams said. “It is also a great team accomplishment because it shows how we keep evolving as a team.”

Tuesday’s win was the second this year for the Prowlers over the Green Wave. Thief River Falls defeated East Grand Forks 93-70 at home on Dec. 9.

The Prowlers got off to a slow start Tuesday night but still managed a six-point lead at the break, before pulling away in the second half for the 22-point win.

“I thought in entirety we played a good game,” Hams said. “We had a slow start that we bounced back from. Guys played very connected once we got moving.”

Joining Manning in double figures were Jake Friedrich, with a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double; Jack Rosendahl, 14, and Jesse McDougall, 10 points and seven rebounds, and Caleb Rosendahl with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
