Grand Forks, N.D. – Jean J. Hesse, 77, of Grand Forks, N.D., died Monday, May 1, 2006 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.
Jean Joyce Brage was born to Fred and Alice (Peterson) Brage on  February 23, 1929 in Stafford Township, Roseau County.  Funeral services were held on Friday, May 5 at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, N.D. Interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Warren.
Jean  married Adelbert Hesse on March 5, 1949 in East Grand Forks. Adelbert died December 7, 1987.
In her 12 years as a Foster Grandparent with the Headstart Program in Grand Forks, she was a foster grandparent to over 100 children.  A shopping day was always full of hugs and kisses as she shopped.  Inevitably she would see
a few of her foster grandchildren.
For entertainment she loved to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow, learn and play.  She also enjoyed the frequent road trips with her friends in the apartment building.
She had a passion for family, baking, and friends. She never wanted to give up her time with the foster grandchildren, even when her health began to fail.
When she was not working, she kept busy with baking. Her freezer was always full and friends and family never left her home without a bag full of baked goods. If someone invited her for dinner, she came prepared to feed a crew.
She is survived by:  her children, Michele Mazur of Grand Forks, N.D., Kathleen \”Suzy\” (Clair) Ellison of Thief River Falls, Ronda (Rick) Hogan of Grand Forks, N.D., Adele (David) Rosencrans of Thief River Falls, Pauleen (John) Hinkley of Halstad; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;  hundreds of Foster grandchildren; siblings, Iola (Gil) Haugan of Brandon, S.D., Janet Johnson of Kent, Wash., Carol Fickbohm of Yankton, S.D., Dennis Brage of Northwood, N.D., Ruth (Ray)  Dohman of Climax, and Richard (Susan) Brage of East Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons, Darwin Stack, Paul and Robert; five daughters, Sherry, Helen, Ellen, Phyllis and Janice; brothers, Victor, LeRoy, Russell; and a sister, Dorothy.
