Northland Foundation awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to students during its annual Spring Scholarship Awards Ceremony.

“This is at the heart of what we do and what we are about,” said Lars Dyrud, executive director of the Foundation.

Established in 1975, Northland Community and Technical College Foundation is a charitable and educational 501(c)(3) foundation that invests in and creates opportunities for investment in the educational experience of Northland’s students.

Dyrud said that last fall the Foundation awarded over $88,540 to students, an additional $57,000 for beginning farmers in agriculture, and over $157,000 in Minnesota Workforce Development Scholarships. “For the whole year, the college has awarded over $450,000 in scholarships to students, and we are very happy to be doing that.”

Northland Community and Technical College President Dr. Sandra Kiddoo thanked students and contributors to the Foundation. She urged everyone to continue this work as students need the help.

Kiddoo also highlighted a couple of new initiatives at the college, one called Northland Cares and a second called Pioneer Pantry. The programs are designed to combat the many barriers to success students encounter as they work towards graduation and full-time employment.

The Pioneer Pantry provides food to students experiencing food insecurity. Northland Cares is an emergency grant funded by the generous support of the Northland Foundation and the sales of Northland’s new Rocket Fuel coffee.
