Memorial Day will be observed Monday, May 25. Information about the following local Memorial Day observances was provided to the Northern Watch or another area newspaper:
Argyle
Argyle American Legion Post 353 will hold a Memorial Day program Monday, May 25 at 10:15 a.m. at the Argyle Auditorium. The main speaker will be Victor M. Sweeney. Following the program, the Honor Guard will go to the Argyle Cemeteries for decoration of graves.
The Argyle Auxiliary will serve lunch at the Argyle American Legion following the decoration of graves. A freewill offering will be accepted. Everyone is welcome.
Holt
American Legion Post 427 of Newfolden will host a ceremony Monday, May 25 at 1 p.m. at the Holt Cemetery.
Karlstad
A Memorial Day program will be held Monday, May 25 at 9 a.m. at Tri-County School in Karlstad. Poppy Poster Contest winners will be recognized. Veteran Don Loeslie will provide the address. Afterward, a parade will go to the cemetery, where there will also be a ceremony.
Coffee and rolls will be served at the Karlstad Community Center immediately following the program. A freewill offering will be accepted for the Karlstad American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Program. Everyone is welcome.
The Karlstad American Legion Club will serve a meatball dinner from 12 p.m. until the meatballs are gone. Freewill donations will be accepted. Everyone is welcome.
McIntosh
The Friends of McIntosh Veterans will host a Memorial Day service Monday, May 25 at the McIntosh Community Center.
The Community Choir will meet at 10 a.m. to practice the hymns before the program. All singers are invited.
The Star Spangled Banner and Color Guard will be in front of the Community Center at 10:25 a.m. There will be no parade this year.
The service starts at 10:30 a.m. Don Ostenson will be the speaker.
After the service, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will serve lunch at the Community Center. Katie’s Place will also serve lunch.
Middle River
A Memorial Day program will be held Monday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Middle River American Legion Club and Riverside Park in Middle River.
Afterward, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 444 of Middle River will host a dinner at the Middle River Legion Club. The menu will include scalloped potatoes, beans, salads, buns, bars, coffee and juice. A freewill offering will be accepted.
Newfolden
American Legion Post 427 of Newfolden will host a ceremony Monday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden. The American Legion Auxiliary will hold a meal afterward at the Newfolden Community Center.
Thief River Falls
American Legion Post 117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 and their auxiliaries will hold a Memorial Day program Monday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Brianna Smith, VFW Auxiliary Post 2793 president, and Norm Huth, commander of VFW Post 2793, will provide the memorial address.
After the program, everyone is invited to American Legion Post 117 for a lunch served by Baker Street Kitchen, and the meal is free to all in attendance at the Memorial Day service.
