Thief River Falls – Doris Hallquist, 92 of Thief River Falls, died peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, with her loving family at her side.
    Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
    Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until time of service, Tuesday.
    Doris Irene Salte was born on August 30, 1924 in Hampden, ND the daughter of Ole and Ragna (Myhrum) Salte. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. The family moved to Antler, ND when Doris was eight years old and then to Middle River, when she was 13. Doris graduated from Middle River High School in 1942.  
    On January 27, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to Carl Rodney Hallquist and to this union two daughters were born, Marlo Rae and Connie Faye.  
    After Rod’s service in the United States Army, the couple made their home in Middle River, where they owned and operated the Rex Café. In 1969, they moved to Thief River Falls where Doris was employed at Arctic Cat.
    Doris enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening, crossword puzzles, and going to the casino. She was sharp, quick witted, kind, caring, and loving woman. She loved giving and receiving hugs and visiting with her children, grandchildren and friends.
    Doris was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing it with those around her. She also loved having coffee with her son-in-law, Jerry whom she considered the son she never had.
    Survivors include her daughter, Connie (Jerry) Prickett of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Tracy (fiancé, Wayne Garrett) Curtis, Tammy (Mark) Schuller, Anthony (Carrie) Strong, Chris Prickett, Todd (Stacie Selnes) Prickett; 13 great-grandchildren, Amy, Ashley, Nicholas, Melissa, Jennifer, Brea, Carli, Annalie, Hayden, Steven, Ryan, Brooklyn, Journey; 10 great-great grandchildren with one due in July; sisters-in-law, Loye Salte in Richmond, CA and Betsy Hallquist in West Linn, OR; and several other family and friends.
    She is preceded in death by her husband, Rod in 2005; daughter, Marlo Rae in 2015; great-granddaughter, Sarah Landis in 2015; parents; sister, Olga (Donald) Shuman; and 4 brothers, Orville (Gladys), Clifford, Melvin (Leatha) and Maynard (Hazel) Salte.
