Clinton Charles McDougal, 87, of Thief River Falls passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2019 at Thief River Care Center.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, with Father Rick Lambert officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Red Lake Falls American Legion Post and United States Air Force Honor Guard.
Clinton C. McDougal was born April 2, 1932 at home in Mahnomen. The son of Archibald and Julia (Dentz) McDougal, he was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mahnomen. Clinton attended St. Joseph’s High School in Red Lake Falls and served as an Altar Server throughout his grade school and high school years.
On July 12, 1950, Clinton entered into service with the United States Air Force. He served in Korea during the Korean conflict and was Honorably Discharged on October 12, 1953. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. In 1954, Clinton earned an Accounting Degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.
Clinton was united in marriage to June Hammer and the couple later divorced.
While living in Minneapolis, Clinton worked as a bartender at Augies Bar & Lounge. From 1970-1978 he worked at the Minnesota State Capital in St. Paul as an Auditor. After moving to Henderson, NV in 1988, he worked at various places including Scotties Bar & Lounge as a bartender. He very much enjoyed living in the warm desert air of Nevada. In August of 2013, Clinton moved to Thief River Falls to be closer to family.
Clinton enjoyed puzzles, model airplane building, hunting and fishing. He was also an avid Vikings fan and loved the Minneapolis area. Clinton was a member of the American Legion and VFW Posts in Grand Forks, ND.
Survivors include his son, Scott Schmidt of Red Lake Falls; sister, Dorie Souto of Thief River Falls; sister-in-law Barbara McDougall of Fridley, along with many nieces and nephews.
Clinton is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; step-dad Lawrence (Jap) Philion, siblings, Marlin (Patsey) McDougall, Conrad McDougall and Jerry Philion; nephew Brian McDougall; brother-in-law Joseph Souto; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
