Goodridge – Curtiss Quam, 74, of Goodridge, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2022 at his home with his loving wife, Donna, by his side.
Curtiss was born on March 5, 1948 to Lewis and Dorothy (Bratland) Quam in Thief River Falls. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Curtiss attended school at Goodridge, graduating in 1966. He worked in Albert Lee and Minneapolis before moving back to Goodridge in 1968.
On February 14, 1968 Curtiss was united in marriage to Donna Anderson in St. Paul. From this union, they were blessed with five children: Tami, Tommie, Kurt, Karla, and Donavon. Curtiss joined Pipe Fitters Union Local 126 based out of Detroit Lakes, where he began his welding career. In 2001 they moved to Detroit Lakes where he was elected the Business Manager for the Local 126 until 2006, the year he retired.
In 2008 he and Donna bought “Big Daddy’s Quick Stop” in Detroit Lakes, where he was head of maintenance and loved to tinker with the car wash. He also loved to circle around town each morning, looking at gas prices to measure his competition. They sold the gas station in 2016 and continued living in Detroit Lakes until 2019, when they moved back to their farm in Goodridge.
Curtiss was known for his sense of humor, tricks, and creative Snapchats. He loved to mow the lawn and tinker in the shop, which included welding small projects for Donna, repairing the trailer, and playing on his Hydro-Mac. Curtiss also liked to stop by the local casinos and was a frequent jackpot winner. Karaoke was a favorite of his as he drove the car, but it was an annoyance to those who rode with him.
Curtiss loved his family more than anything. He taught his children to work hard, be honest, and care for others. He had a big heart for those who needed help. Curtiss loved dogs and always had a dog at the house.
Curtiss is survived by his wife, Donna, Goodridge; children, Tami (Darrin) Byklum, Fisher, Tommie (Debbie) Quam, Prescott, AZ, Kurt (Jodi) Quam, Thief River Falls, Karla (Zach) Bancroft, Orlando, FL, and Donavon (Paula), Detroit Lakes; grandchildren, Beau, Tori and Trea Byklum, Kayla (Jordan) Olson, Kaiden, Daltyn, and Kash Quam, Kiersten and Nick Schlim, Parker, Oliver, Addison, and Kaja Quam; great-grandchildren, Whitley and Ruby Olson; sister, Janyce (Marvin) Bakken; and brother-in-law, Dalton (Peg) Anderson; several cousins, nephews, and nieces; and beloved dog, Hannah.
