Thief River Falls – Kyle Kaushagen, 61, of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
Kyle David Kaushagen was born on March 11, 1961 in Thief River Falls, the son of Gordon A. Kaushagen and Lavonne (Nelson) Kaushagen. He was baptized at Silver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Kyle attended school at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.
On October 2, 1995 Kyle was united in marriage to Evelyn Vondal in Warren. Together they made their home in rural Thief River Falls.
Throughout the years Kyle worked for various farmers including his brothers, Luther and Daniel. He also drove bus for the Thief River Falls School District, drove for Paradis Inc., and owned his own trucking company, Kaushagen Trucking. Most recently he worked for Thygeson Construction, where he was employed until 2017 when he retired due to health issues.
Kyle had a love for the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed farming, western movies, listening to music and singing, and visiting with family and friends. Kyle was a good story-teller with a keen sense of humor.
Kyle is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Kaushagen; step-children, Jenny Gayden, Sonya Carlson (special friend Heather), and Jerod Carlson; grandchildren, Yasmine (fiancé Dominic) Vondal-Gayden, Taija Vondal-Gayden, JaVayla Vondal-Gayden, Emily Carlson, Mercedez Carlson, and Ryker Oppegaard; great-grandchildren, Mary Mae Henline and Jasper Carlson; siblings, Judy (Richard) Olson, Luther (special friend Beth) Kaushagen, Daniel Kaushagen, Mary Jane (Roger) Paradis, Mark (Cynthia) Kaushagen, and Joy Kaushagen; sisters-in-law, Rita (Mark) Whittaker and Bonnie Vondal; brother-in-law, Leonard Vondal; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Gordon Kaushagen and LaVonne Kaushagen Thune; stepfather, Donald Thune; grandparents, John and Amanda Nelson and Henry and Jenny Kaushagen; sister, Kristi Furuseth; niece, Lona Moen; sister-in-law, Larae Kaushagen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Doris Vondal; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Alex Amiot officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls.
Visitation will take place from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church.
