Brookings, Oregon – Ronald John (Ron) Wold, age 79, passed away at his home in Brookings, Oregon on April 1, 2023
Ron was born May 23 1943 in Thief River Falls to Ingvald and Minnie (Efteland) Wold. He attended schools in and around Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961. After high school he attended the Lutheran Bible Institute for two years in Seattle Washington, before returning home and joining the Navy in 1963. On August13, 1966, Ron married Rebecca Myhren in Las Angeles, California. To this union they had two children Michael and Melissa. Sadly, Rebecca passed away in 2016. In 2017, Ron met and married Suzanne Mowatt, a September wedding was held in Brookings, Oregon. It is there he remained until his passing.
Ron served 30 years with the Navy and retired in 1993 with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9). During his time in service he saw duty stations all around the world and served aboard many Navy vessels both above and below the water. During his 30 years, Ron received the Navy Commendation (3), Navy Achievement (4), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation (3), Battle E Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal (7), Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Antarctic Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/Bronze Star, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Expert Pistol Shot Medal.
Ron was Submarine Qualified and served on the USS Seawolf (SSN-575). He also served on the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) and the USS Pyro (AE-24), which is where he received the Southwest Asia Medal for support of Desert Storm.
After the Navy, Ron worked for a couple of other businesses before fully retiring to spend time with family and friends.
Ron is survived by his wife Suzanne, and son Michael both of Brookings Oregon. Brothers Bruce (Barb) of Cologne, Robert (Liz) of Florissant, MO, Phillip (Evonne) of Cass Lake, MN, Peter (Suzy) of Crookston, sisters Deborah (Arlen) Brekke of Oklee, MN, and Edith (Roger) Vedbraaten of Fosston, MN. Ron was also survived and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was proceeded in death by his first wife Rebecca, daughter Melissa, his parents Ingvald and Minnie Wold, and his sister Grace Busse.
Ron’s request was to be cremated and his ashes buried at sea
