Thief River Falls – Alice Stancyk, of Thief River Falls, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls.
Alice Angeline Stancyk was born February 2, 1927 at Grafton, ND, daughter of Anton and Victoria (Marynik) Korczak. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She was raised in the Grafton area and attended country school.
Alice was united in marriage to Stanley Stancyk on May 7, 1952 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND. To this union, four children were born: Jeanette, Marcellene, Stanley Jr, and Lucille. The couple made their home near Strandquist where they farmed and raised livestock. In her later years, she was employed at Northern Pride in Thief River Falls for 20 years.
She enjoyed canning, baking, cooking, and making her famous homemade “bread,” and was always over the top with food at holidays. She also had a huge garden and many varieties of flowers around the house. She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion, and she played for many wedding dances. She played cards and always had a pot of coffee and a “snack” for people. Family was everything to her. During her stay at Oakland Park her favorite snack was coffee, Milky Way and Circus Peanuts.
Alice’s family would like to thank Oakland Park staff for their kindness and caring attitude.
Alice was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church and guild, and later years was a member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Her faith was very important to her; she prayed the Rosary everyday and prayed for family.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Jeanette (Curtis) Forfang of Hallock, Marcellene Franson of Thief River Falls, and Lucille (Tom) Scholin of Thief River Falls; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Jami) Seng, Justin Seng (special friend Laura), Jordan Forfang, Jeffrey (Heather) Franson and Kayden Scholin; great-grandchildren, Anabelle Seng, Peter Qualey, Emma, Amelia, Kiera and Grace Seng, Chloe, and Aliya Franson; brothers, Henry (Janice) Korczak, and Gregory (Genny) Korczak; along with many nieces and nephews.
