Thief River Falls – Darrold Allan Rodahl, 72, of Thief River Falls, died on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.
On June 6, 1952, Darrold was born to Julian and Alice (Ness) Rodahl at Thief River Falls. He was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt. Darrold attended Washington Elementary School, Franklin Middle School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. Darrold earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanized Agriculture from NDSU. During his college years, Darrold was a part of FarmHouse Fraternity, where he made many wonderful friends.
On June 13, 1987, Darrold was united in marriage to Mary Louise (Kitty) Anderson in Karlstad. Darrold farmed his whole life in Marshall County. He took pride in the way his fields looked and worked long hard days with a phenomenal work ethic. He also enjoyed the years he raised beef cattle. Even though the days were long, he knew the value of getting off the farm to relax and be with family and friends. Darrold also worked tirelessly with Agder Township Water Control. He had stacks of papers and binders full of history concerning water control. He also worked as a Supervisor for the Agder Township Board.
Darrold was a natural athlete, playing basketball and running track in high school. He played violin, accordion, and guitar, as well as receiving a scuba diving certificate. He enjoyed coaching Adam and Micah’s basketball teams and had real empathy and patience with the teams. He loved spending summer weekends at the Sjulson cabin on Maple Lake, and deer hunting with the boys in their younger years.
Darrold was a thinker and a dreamer. There wasn’t a farm machine, home appliance, or household project he couldn’t fix. Many times it was just to find the time to work on them. He loved good projects and was a perfectionist when it came to making something look good. Darrold stood on solid ground to follow the Lord, to do the right thing, and to be a good neighbor. He read his Bible faithfully, attended church, and raised his sons to do the same. As a family, they were a household of faith serving the Lord. He served as a Deacon in the church and enjoyed fellowship time with the church members.
Darrold is survived by his wife, Mary Louise “Kitty” Rodahl; sons, Micah (Sarah Coplin) and Adam Rodahl; siblings: Elaine Rodahl and David (Barb) Rodahl; several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Alice (Ness) Rodahl; and sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Tom Faaland.
