Thief River Falls – Arnold Rouland Jr., age 79, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Arnold Gordon Rouland, Jr. was born on December 2, 1945, in Bagley, to Gwendolyn (Lund) Rouland and Arnold Rouland, Sr.
Arnold grew up in Crookston, graduating from Central High School in 1963. Arnold went to Chicago and worked for Asplin Tree Experts where he worked clearing high line wires for the state of Illinois. He was fearless when it came to heights and the job that he did. Arnold was a very ambitious young man and worked part-time on the weekends for Merle’s Lawn and Tree Service.
Arnold loved fast cars, and his favorite was a 1966 Chevy II SS Nova, 627. Arnold was a snappy dresser and always wanted to look his best.
An unfortunate accident occurred resulting in him returning to Crookston where he lived with his mom and dad for a number of years.
The last twenty years, Arnold has lived with his brother, John and sister-in-law Faye. He loved what he called “the farm” and he was content to be there. He especially loved his two nephews Eric and Aaron. A highlight for him was when they would call and visit when they went on to have families of their own. He enjoyed it when their children would come and stay.
He enjoyed, for a number of years, riding the lawnmower and mowing grass. He liked to sit on the deck and watch the birds and wildlife and had some interesting encounters. He loved what he called the “puppies” who he felt he needed to tend to. He especially had a fondness for Axle! “Arn” as he was affectionately called, was a kind and gentle man.
He is survived by his siblings, AnnaMae Rouland, Ramona (Alan) Ostlund, John (Faye) Rouland, and Charlotte Rouland; nephews, Eric and Aaron Rouland, Chad, Sean, Derrick Ostlund, Nathaniel and Alexander Wick; and niece, Ingrid Wick.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Gwen Rouland.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley, with a visitation one hour prior.
Interment will be held at Samhold Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick, at a later date.
