Thief River Falls – Robin Suzanne Deiter, age 61, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Her death was unexpected but followed by several years of chronic illness.
She was born on July 31, 1963, in Huron, SD at St John’s Medical Center to James and Nancy Deiter. The eldest of their three children, she spent the next 5 ½ years on the family farm near Frankfort, SD.
She started kindergarten in Redfield, SD and transferred to schools in Minnesota when the family moved there. A series of schools followed, ending with her graduation from Howard Lake Public Schools in 1981.
Robin was very independent following graduation. That was exhibited by a move to Minneapolis that included jobs at Prudential, Lincoln Del and the Marriott. In the mid 80s she moved back to the Howard Lake-Winsted area and had several jobs at Red’s Pizza, Dura Supreme, Edco and Ingersoll Rand.
In 1992, she moved to Thief River Falls. While there she attended Northland Community College, graduating in 1995 with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Drafting. That was followed by a move back to Howard Lake where she worked at Dura Supreme and as an industrial engineer at an injection molding plant in Maple Plain. In 1998 she went back to Thief River Falls where she remained the rest of her life.
Robin was always talented and creative. She could go to a garage sale, see something that was ordinary and take it home. It would be turned into something decorative and beautiful that no one else would have seen. Her talents at drawing and drafting were phenomenal. In addition, her love of music and cats was well known to everyone.
Robin is survived by her sons, Dana Deiter and Jeremiah Smith; grandchildren, Isabella Peterson and Anastasia Cameron; brothers, William (Carol) and Jason (Sheri); mother, Nancy Deiter; and several nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Deiter; grandparents, Clarence and Malinda Deiter and Garfield and Jonnette Dokken; aunts, Gretchen Dokken and Marian West.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with the memorial services starting at 2 p.m. The officiant will be Rev. Paul Koch.
Other services were provided by Johnson Funeral Home and Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home.
Inurnment will be later in the spring when she will be laid to rest by her father at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield, SD.
