Vadnais Heights – Laird Raymond Sourdif, 50, of Vadnais Heights, and formerly of Newfolden, was taken from us due to cancer on April 19, 2025. He was diagnosed in January 2025 and began chemo treatments on the 11th of that same month.
Laird graduated from Marshall County Central High School in 1992, then went on to earn several college degrees. He was very smart and enjoyed learning. Laird was also very kind, considerate, and respectful to those he met. His sense of humor was spontaneous, wonderful, and endless.
On October 6, 2007, Laird married Laura Peterson in St. Paul. They made their home in St. Paul and the surrounding area. In 2012, they welcomed their first daughter, Indra. To complete their family, Iona was born in 2015.
Laird always had a strong work ethic and gave 110% to everything he did. He worked from school-age until April of 2025. For the last twelve years, he worked in the Housing Department for the State of Minnesota. He started as the RFP Coordinator, and his most recent position was as Data Manager.
Laird had a love for family, nature, reading and music. His bookshelves were always filled with books. In high school, he had a band and played guitar – something he never gave up doing, even if it was less frequent over the years. Most summers he would also have a few garden spots. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially football – both at college level and NFL. Throughout the years, he and his family enjoyed camping, hiking, and taking walks. Laird was always sure to make donations to public libraries, museums, parks and zoos when he and his family would visit.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Laura; and daughters, Indra and Iona; his mother, DeAnna (Chapman) (Sourdif) Anderson; sister, Angel (Austin Fowler) Anderson; niece and nephew, Inga and Lewis; and many other relatives and friends.
Laird is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents: Raymond and Darleen (Bengtson) Chapman, and Raymond and Loretta (Lien) Sourdif; and several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
There will be no services in respect to Laird’s wishes. Condolences and memories can be shared at https://cremationsocietyofmn.com/tribute/details/81178/Laird-Sourdif/obituary.html#content-start.
