Hallock – Mavis Elaine Langaas, 104, died Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Kittson Healthcare, Hallock.
Mavis Elaine Johnson was born May 2, 1921, in Norden Township, Pennington County, the daughter of Charlie and Minnie (Anderson) Johnson. Mavis was baptized and confirmed at Norden Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls. She attended Gopher Mound District 127 and Dimmen School in Norden Township. She worked at the Sanatorium in Thief River Falls for a short period, then worked in Warren, MN, and also worked on a farm at Larimore, ND.
On June 11, 1946, Mavis was united in marriage to Harold Merlin Langaas in Grafton, ND. The couple returned to Norden Township and farmed on various farms. In 1970, they bought some land west of Thief River Falls and built a home. Mavis stayed on the land until 1996, when she moved into Thief River Falls. She moved to Hallock, in 2021, to be closer to family.
Mavis was a member of the Norden Lutheran Free Church and was a member of the Good Cheer Club for many years.
Mavis is survived by siblings, Lillian Rux, Thief River Falls, and Eldo Johnson, Keene, ND.
She is preceded in death by husband, Harold, August 23, 1983; parents, Charlie and Minnie Johnson; siblings: Laverne and Duane, Cora Ranstrom, Elaine Austinson, Glorianne Weflen, and Annette Larson.
The funeral service for Mavis will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with Reverend Terri Cuppett officiating.
The burial will be held at Norden Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls.
