Ocala, FL – Darrel Duane Anderson, 82, of Ocala, FL, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Darrel was born on May 18, 1943, in Cody, WY, the eldest son of Gilmer and Francis (Skime) Anderson. He grew up in Grygla and graduated from Goodridge High School in 1961.
After high school, Darrel joined the US Navy and served for 4 years. He served as a SeaBee and was stationed in Guam during the Vietnam War. When he finished his Navy tour, Darrel went home to Minnesota where he married Myrna, his wife of 45 years.
They lived in Kimball, on the family farm, and Darrel worked as a draftsman and an engineer on turbine electric engines in St. Cloud. He later worked for 21 years as Superintendent of Utilities for the City of Warroad, before retiring in 2005. Shortly after Darrel’s retirement, he and Myrna moved to Ocala, FL where Myrna passed in 2011. In 2014, Darrel met his companion and partner, Suzanne Scott, who he lived with until the time of his passing.
Darrel loved hunting, fishing and camping, as well as other hobbies of woodworking and painting. He never turned down an opportunity to play a few hands of Texas Hold’em, and he enjoyed spending time with his circle of friends at weekly meals, spending his kids’ inheritance.
Darrel is survived by his four children, Darrin (Deanna); Dana; Danny (Darlene); and Malina (Troy); 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as Suzanne and his two stepdaughters, Krystal (Mike) and Cindy (Joe).
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, Gilmer and Francis (Skime) Anderson; his wife, Myrna (Mootz) Anderson; and his two brothers, Jerry Anderson and Richard “Red” Anderson.
Family and friends joined in a celebration of Darrel’s Life on June 14, 2025, in Ocala, FL at the Silver Springs Moose Lodge 1199.
A second celebration of life will be held on July 26, 2025, in Grygla, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church from 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
Darrel will be laid to rest with military honors in Grygla, near the family farm, at Northwoods Cemetery, 44106 Moose River Rd NW, at 1 p.m.
