Thief River Falls – Dennis Bondy, 80 of Thief River Falls died peacefully on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls with his loving family at his side.
Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Dennis Jay Bondy was born on January 22, 1938 in Drayton, ND, to Florence (Myster) and Gordon K. Bondy. He attended Drayton High School and the University of North Dakota where he met and later married, Lilas (Snooki) Belk.
Married for 54 years, Dennis and Snooki raised three children: Eric, married to Laurie McDaniel, Melissa, married to Kyle John, and Mark, married to Cindi Russell. Dennis was grandfather to Cole and Taylor Bondy, Brennan and Garrett John and Ben (Karly), Allie (Michael Ferrie) and Katie (Luke) Lagergren. Louis Bondy, son of Ben and Karly Bondy, became his first great grandchild in May of 2017.
Dennis worked at both Northern State Bank and Thune-Upham Insurance for a number of years. He truly enjoyed his customers and the people with whom he worked.
Dennis lived a life of service, serving in the United States Army from 1961-1963 at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. He was a volunteer for the ambulance squad, the Airport Authority, the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Eagles, Elks and Toastmasters. He was actively involved in his community for many years.
An avid outdoorsman, Dennis loved to snowmobile, hunt, fish and spend time outdoors. He loved being at the lake and ingrained his love of the great outdoors in his family. He was a pilot for many years and loved to fly. He enjoyed cooking, woodcarving, curling, playing cards (and watching his son-in-law lose).
Dennis had a great sense of humor and while he was a quiet man, one only had to look at the twinkle in his eye to see the spirit that lived within him.
Also left to mourn his passing are his sister, Carol Bondy Morrison and her four sons, Brett, Blair, Bradley and Brian; and his brother, Bruce (Cindy) Bondy and their children, Josh and Geneva.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice in Dennis’s name. If you don’t have a favorite charity, Dennis valued ASPCA, which focuses on preventing animal cruelty or St. Jude’s children’s Hospital.
